CURRENT RESEARCH

Deciphering biochemical controls on calcium carbonate mineralization.

Many organisms are able to biomineralize calcium carbonate (CaCO3)
with remarkable control over size, morphology, growth rate, and
crystal structure.  My research aims to develop a more complete
picture of the processes involved in the formation of this important
mineral. Specifically, I am interested in understanding the role
played by biomolecules during calcium carbonate nucleation and growth.
